Semi Cartridge: Modern Cartidge History: The M1911, also known as the "Government" or "Colt Government", is a single-action, semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.  Browning's basic M1911 design has seen very little change throughout its production life Colt 1911 in .455 Webley caliber is one of 10,500 pistols sold to the British Air Service /Royal Air Force contracts, between late 1917 & 1918.  For reference see Charles W.
